Letโs read some hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช!
Today ๐๐๐๐ณ, we are going to be looking at a section of a False Door from the tomb ๐๐ซ๐๐ of an official ๐ด๐๐ named Metjetji ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐. Metjetji ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ lived during the Fifth or Sixth Dynasties (Old Kingdom) during the reign ๐๐๐พ of the pharaoh ๐๐ป Unas ๐น๐๐๐ด or slightly later.ย

On the False Door, we see Metjetji ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ on the left sitting in front of an offering table ๐๐๐ ก๐ฟ๐. The offering table ๐๐๐ ก๐ฟ๐ seems to have a lot of jars on it! The hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช that we see are a part of the offering formula!
Fun fact: usually the image ๐๐ ฑ๐ of the person is facing the same way as the hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช! Since the hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช (and also Metjetji ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐) are pointing to the right, we will start reading the hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช from the right! Hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช are always read from top to bottom, so we will read that way as well!
This is a list of all of the things that Metjetji ๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ needs in order to sustain him in the afterlife!
๐๐๐ป – Kingโs Nobleman/Kingโs Gentleman
๐ ๐ฟ๐ฟ๐ – Metjetji
๐ผ๐- A thousand bread
๐ผ๐พ – A thousand ox
๐ผ๐ ฟ – A thousand fowl
๐ผ๐ฒ – A thousand alabaster (I think this is a mistake – it should be โ๐ฑโ and not โ๐ฒโ)
๐ผ๐ฒ – A thousand linen
๐ผ๐ – A thousand round loafs of bread
๐ผ๐ – A thousand beer
