Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ!
Today ππππ³ we are going to look at a stela ππ ±ππΈ for a man πππ€ named Irethoreru and it is dated to the 25th Dynasty (Third Intermediate Period, c. 775-663 B.C.E.). I have posted about the full stela ππ ±ππΈ in the past, but today ππππ³ we are going to take a closer look at some of the inscriptions πππ₯ on it! I like to highlight the titles/epithets associated with Gods πΉπΉπΉ and Goddesses πΉπΉπΉπ, because they are inscriptions πππ₯ that you can easily recognize a lot!Β
Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ! We are starting right underneath the solar disc!Β
πΉπ¨π – Osiris
πΌπΉ – Great God (this is actually written backwards and should be βπΉπΌβ)
π – Lord
π― – Sky
πΎ – Ruler
π – Eternity
All π together ππ, this reads: βOsiris, the Great God, Lord of the Sky, Ruler of Eternity.β βLord of the Sky ππ―β is usually Amunβs ππ ππ title, so itβs interesting to see it associated with Osiris πΉπ¨π here! Also, βπ―β can mean the word βabove,β as βskyβ is more commonly written as βπͺππ―.βΒ
Hereβs the next inscription:
π¨ππ – Isis
π ¨π – Great One
πΉπ – Godβs Mother/Goddess
All π together ππ, this reads: βIsis, the Great One, the Godβs Mother.β
Next to each Uraeus πππππ, the name ππ of the city βBehdet ππ§ππβ (modern day Edfu) is written. Behdet ππ§ππ is an Egyptian city ππΊ in Upper Egypt π. Horus of the Winged Disc or βBehdetiteβ was the chief god πΉ of the city ππΊ.
