Today ππππ³ I am going to be re-sharing one of my absolute favorite reliefs of Anubis πππͺπ ±π£! This relief of Anubis πππͺπ ±π£ is from a larger limestone ππππ piece that was made for Amenemhat Iβs ππ ππ ππ βHeb Sedβ festival,Β better known as the 30 πππ Year Jubilee!Β
There are so many amazing facts about Anubis πππͺπ ±π’; I could probably write a book about him! Aptly named, βLord of the Necropolis ππΎπ¦π,β he was guardian of tombs ππ«πππ¦ and cemeteries. Anubis πππͺπ ±π’ was the god πΉ of mummification π΄π§ππ ±π, and the title βHe who is in the mummy wrappings ππΆπ ±πππβ signifies Anubisβ πππͺπ ±π£ role in the mummification π΄π§ππ ±π process, which is what he is most known for.Β
Anubis πππͺπ ±π£ also could act as a guide to souls πππ in the Underworld πΌπΏππ(referenced in the Pyramid Texts of Unas πΉπππ΄). One of his most famous roles is in the Weighing of the Heart, in which the dead π ππ± personβs heart πππ£ would be weighed against Maatβs ππ΄π£ππ¦ feather ππΊ by Anubis πππͺπ ±π£. Basically, Anubis πππͺπ ±π£ played a big role in all aspects of a personβs death π ππ±, and death π ππ± was a huge part of the Egyptian religion.
Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ (the ones above Anubisβ πππͺπ ±π£ head)! This is part of a much larger inscription πππ₯!
πΆπ ±ππ- He Who is in the Mummy Wrappings – (the first symbol is cut off in my picture, ππΆπ ±πππ, but it actually can be written both ways)
ππΏπΏ – Lord of the Two Lands (we have seen this one many times before – part of the titles of the pharaoh)!
