Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ! Also, how gorgeous π€ are the colors on this sarcophagus ππΉπππ?!
This is another inscription πππ₯ that you will find on sarcophagi ππΉππππͺ or other funerary objects, like stelae ππ ±ππΈπͺ. While the phrase may not be as common as some others (like the Offering Formula), it does pop up fairly frequently and itβs a good one to know!
πͺππ- Venerated
ππ – Before
π¨ππΊ – Isis (her name is usually written as π¨ππ₯, but the determinative is missing most likely due to the amount of space available on the sarcophagus.)
Since βVenerated πͺππβ is just another way to say βrespect,β this phrase means that the deceased π ππ± person was held in high regard by the goddess πΉπ Isis π¨ππ₯! That is certainly a position that an ancient Egyptian ππππ would want to be in!
Now, Isis π¨ππΊ isnβt the only goddessβ πΉπ name ππ that is used in this phrase; Anubis πππͺπ ±π£ and Osiris πΉπ¨π are popular to find as well! This is because all three πΌ of these deities πΉπΉπΉ are associated with death π ππ± and the afterlife πΌπΏππ!
πͺπππππππͺπ
±π£ – Venerated Before Anubis
πͺπππππΉπ¨π – Venerated Before Osiris
I hope this has been helpful in your hieroglyph journey!
