Seeing the small πππ΄π © bronze ππ€ππ¦ statues πππππΎπͺ of Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ are one of my favorite parts of going to the museum! My Nonno loved Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ and always pointed him out to us! We even played a game as to who could find Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ first!Β I had to get a picture ππ ±π of me with the statue πππππΎ!
Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ, whose name ππ means βhe who comes in peace,β was a high official π΄ππ (βoverseer of the worksβ and a priest πΉπ of Ptah πͺπππ±) during the reign πΎ of the pharaoh ππ» Djoser π¦ during the 3rd Dynasty. Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ is most famous for constructing the Step Pyramid ππ ππ΄ at Memphis π ππ€πππ΄π (modern day Saqqara). In addition to being a priest πΉπ and architect, he is also connected with medicine, even though no written evidence of his achievements in medicine has been found.
Even though Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ lived during the Old Kingdom and reached demigod status (he is thought to be the son π of Ptah πͺπππ±) within a century of his death, it wasnβt until the Late Period/Ptolemaic Period that the worship πΌπΏπ’ of Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ reached its peak. Imhotep ππ π΅ππͺ is one of the few commoners to ever reach godly status and cult centers dedicated to his worship πΌπΏπ’ were located at Memphis π ππ€πππ΄π, Philae, and Thebes πππ. His tomb ππ«ππ has never been found, though if I had to guess, I would think it would be at Saqqara – near the Step Pyramid ππ ππ΄!
