I am a huge Star Wars fan and have been for a very long time, so finally getting to visit Galaxyβs Edge was an absolute dream come true! I had the most incredible time in the galaxy far, far away! To my surprise, there’s an obelisk ππππΆ in Galaxy’s Edge!
An obelisk ππππΆ is defined as a structure with four π½ sides that comes together at the top to form a pyramid shape. Obelisks ππππΆπͺ were made out of a single stone ππππͺ and used to be at the entrance to ancient Egyptian temples ππππͺ. Usually there were two π» obelisks ππππΆπͺ per temple πππ entrance. The obelisk ππππΆ was invented by the ancient Egyptians πππππͺ!Β
The word βobeliskβ is actually Greek, and the ancient Egyptians actually referred to these structures as βteαΈ«en.β (π=t, π=αΈ«, π=n, πΆ= determinative).
There are a couple of ways to write βobeliskβ in hieroglyphs πΉππͺ:
ππππΆ (the full word)
πππΆ (shortened variant of the word)
πΆ (just the determinative could be used, in this case as an ideogram to mean the full word)
When Rome conquered Egypt ππ ππ, many of the emperors brought obelisks ππππΆπͺ to Rome. There are currently 13 obelisks ππππΆπͺ throughout Rome, eight of which are purely Egyptian, and the other five πΎ were procured by the emperors.
Itβs so cool to see a structure invented by the ancient Egyptians πππππͺ still inspiring projects today – even Star Wars related ones!
I have added some of my non-Egypt related pictures to the post because I just love Star Wars so much and I wanted to share!
I hope youβre enjoying my βAncient Egypt in Disneyβ series! Let me know in the comments!
