Here I am with the Kingβs List in the British Museum! In the picture ππ ±π, Iβm pointing to where Hatshepsutβs π³π¦π name ππ should be because she was one of the pharaohs left off the list – she was left off because she was considered to be a non-legitimate pharaoh.
The point of the King Lists was not to preserve history for future generations, rather the main objective was to glorify the gods πΉπΉπΉ, and as we know, pharaohs ππ»π₯ were considered gods πΉπΉπΉ on Earth. These lists allowed Seti I π³π¦π and Rameses II π©ππππ΄π to assert their legitimacy amongst the old pharaohs ππ»π₯ of Egypt ππ ππ.
Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ! We are going to look at the Throne Name cartouches of the 18th Dynasty pharaohs to show where Hatshepsutβs π³π¦π name is missing! We will start reading from the right since the hieroglyphs point in that direction!
π³π»π£π – Thutmosis I βGreat is the manifestation of the soul of Raβ
π³π»π£π – Thutmosis II βGreat is the manifestation of Raβ
π³π π£ – Tutmosis III βLasting is the Manifestation of Raβ
π³π»π£π – Amenhotep II βGreat is the manifestation of Raβ
π³π π£πΌ – Thutmosis IV βLasting are the Manifestations of Raβ
π³π§π – Amenhotep III βPossessor of the Truth of Raβ
As you can see, the cartouches jump right from Thutmosis II π³π»π£π to Thutmosis III π³π π£ and totally skip Hatshepsut π³π¦π!
