This is a linen π± textile that was made in honor of the goddess πΉπ Hathor π‘ and was meant to be placed at her shrine πππ ππ at Deir el-Bahri π¦ππ¦π₯π.
In the beautifully π€ colored images ππ ±ππ¦ on the right side of the linen π±, we can see Hathor π‘ in her cow π€ππππ form standing on a boat π§πͺππ, encompassed by a shrine πππ ππ, and surrounded by lotus flowers πΈπΈπΈ. Below Hathorβs π‘ head πΆπ€, stands a small figure in black ππ that is representative of the pharaoh ππ» Montuhotep II π³π€π. We know that itβs Montuhotep II π³π€π because of the cartouche next to the small figure!
Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ!
πΉπ€ – Great/Perfect God
(π³π€π) – Nebhapetra (Montuhotep II)
Next to Hathor π‘, the hieroglyphs πΉππͺ read:
π‘ – Hathor
πππ―- Lady/Mistress of Heaven
π·ππππ – Chief One of Thebes
On the left side, the first man standing before ππ Hathor π‘ has his arms raised, which is to represent him worshipping πΌπΏπ’ the goddess πΉπ.
Hathorβs π‘ name ππ in hieroglyphs πΉππͺ is quite unique compared to some of the other gods/goddesses. Her name ππ is composed of a composite hieroglyph πΉπ which literally translates to βHouse of Horus.β Hathor π‘ was the goddess πΉπ of women ππππππͺ, motherhood, joy, music πππΈ, happiness π«π ±π, and a goddess πΉπ of the afterlife πΌπΏππ.
