This type of statue ๐๐๐๐ญ๐พ is referred to as a Pair Statue.
Pair Statues first appeared in the Third Dynasty during the reign of the pharaoh ๐๐ป Djoser ๐ฆ, however, this example is from the 18th Dynasty (New Kingdom – either the reign of Thutmosis IV ๐ณ๐ ๐ฃ๐ผ or Amenhotep III ๐ณ๐ง๐ ).
The purpose of the Pair Statue was to show closeness between two ๐ป individuals. This pair statue represents a husband and wife ๐๐๐! The man ๐๐๐ค is named Nebsen and he was a scribe ๐๐ in the treasury, while the woman ๐๐๐ is named Nebet-ta, and she was a singer in the temple ๐๐๐ of Isis ๐จ๐๐ฅ. Both scribes ๐๐๐ช and singers were held in high regard and were of high status, which is probably how they had the means to procure such a beautiful ๐ค pair statue ๐๐๐๐ญ๐พ!
What I love about this statue ๐๐๐๐ญ๐พ is how beautiful ๐ค the hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช are!
The word โwomanโ can be written multiple ways, either ๐๐๐๐๐ or ๐๐๐. The latter can also mean โwife.โ
There is also a dedication to the god ๐น Sobek ๐ด๐๐ก๐ (right column on the back):
