These limestone ππππ jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ are very unique and I really like them! The only jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ similar to this that have been found in Egypt ππ ππ were in the tomb ππ©ππ of Yuya ππ ±ππΏπΌ and Thuya πΏπ ±ππ ± in the Valley of the Kings (KV46). These jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ at the MET are tentatively dated to the 18th Dynasty reign of Amenhotep III ππ ππ΅πΎπ because of this!Β

Fun Fact: Yuya ππ ±ππΏπΌ and Thuya πΏπ ±ππ ± were Akhenatenβs ππππ³π ππ grandparents and Tutankhamunβs ππ πππ ±ππΉπΎπΊπ great-parents!
These four π½ jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ are made of limestone ππππ and have lids on them that show different animals! More specifically the lids show the deity Bes ππ΄π, a frog ππππ, an ox πΎ head and a resting calf ππππ. No one knows what these jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ were specifically for!Β

Bes ππ΄π also represented everything good, and was the enemy of anything evil. Bes ππ΄π is also thought to protect π ππ‘π people against sickness. Cups were fashioned in Besβ ππ΄π likeness and people thought if they drank from the cup, Bes ππ΄π would heal them! So maybe these jars ππ°πππ²ππΌ were protecting something?!
