This beautiful ๐ค necklace ๐๐๐ ฑ๐ belonged to the princess Sithathoryunet, who is thought to be the daughter ๐ ญ๐ of the 12th Dynasty (c. 1887โ1813 B.C.E) Pharaoh ๐๐ป Senwosret II ๐๐ด๐๐๐๐. She is thought to be his daughter ๐ ญ๐ because her tomb ๐๐ซ๐๐ is linked to his pyramid.ย

Flinders Petrie was actually the one to discover her tomb ๐๐ซ๐๐. Despite being robbed in antiquity, the tomb robbers left a chest full of beautiful ๐ค jewelry ๐๐๐ข behind!
The necklace ๐๐๐ ฑ๐ is made out of gold ๐๐๐๐, carnelian (stone with a red color), lapis lazuli ๐๐ด๐๐ง๐ง, turquoise ๐ ๐๐๐๐, green feldspar, and garnet ๐๐๐๐ฟ๐ณ๐ฟ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐ฆ!
Letโs take a look at all of the beautiful ๐ค๐๐ symbolism and imagery ๐๐ ฑ๐ that is compressed into this piece!

The necklace ๐๐๐ ฑ๐ is centered around the throne name cartouche of Pharaoh ๐๐ป Senwosret II ๐ณ๐๐ฃ.
Each side is symmetrical, and if we start by looking at the outermost part, the Falcon represents the sun ๐ณ๐บ god ๐น Ra ๐ณ๐บ๐ and he is is holding a shen ๐ถ symbol. The shen ๐ถ symbol is a circle of rope that is tied at the end. The tied rope symbolizes the completeness and eternity ๐๐ณ๐ of the reign of the pharaoh ๐๐ป.
There are two Ankh ๐น symbols that are hanging on two cobras ๐๐๐๐๐๐ช who are representative of Nekhbet ๐๐๐๐ ๐ and Wadjet ๐ ๐๐๐, two traditional goddesses ๐น๐น๐น๐ who are protectors of the pharaoh ๐๐ป. Underneath the cartouche is the god ๐น Heh ๐จ, who is the personification of infinity and eternity ๐๐ณ๐. His hieroglyphic symbol is actually the symbol for the number โone million ๐จ,โ thus ensuring that the kingโs rule is eternal ๐.
Underneath the god ๐น Heh ๐จ, are stones arranged to look like the โripple of water ๐โ hieroglyph, which is representative of the primordial waters that the land came from in the Egyptian creation myth. Much like the water ๐ of the Nile ๐๐๐๐ ฑ๐๐๐๐บ supported Egypt ๐๐ ๐๐, the primordial waters support this piece!
