Look at this unfinished stela ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ธ – there are no hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช!!!! I love when museums have unfinished pieces of Egyptian art because itโs so cool to see various steps in the artistic process! The empty boxes above the deceased (right) and Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค (left) are where the hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช should be!
On the top of the stela ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ธ, there are two Wedjat ๐ symbols. The Wedjat ๐ is a very common symbol of protection ๐ ๐๐ก๐ and regeneration. In between the Wedjats ๐๐ is the Shen ๐ถ symbol! The Shen ๐ถ symbol is a circle of rope that is tied at the end. The tied rope symbolizes completeness, infinity/eternity ๐๐ณ๐, and is also a symbol of protection ๐ ๐๐ก๐. Both of these symbols could be worn by both the living ๐น๐๐๐ ฑ๐ฆ and the dead ๐ ๐๐ฑ.
The deceased ๐ ๐๐ฑ (right) is making an offering to the god ๐น Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค (left). This image is a very popular one to appear on stelae ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ธ๐ช.
Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค is a combination of Ra ๐ณ๐บ๐ and Horus ๐ ๐ญ into a single deity. I believe this is a depiction of Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค because he is wearing the sun-disc ๐ณ๐ค crown that has a Uraeus ๐๐๐๐๐ at the front. Also, Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค is holding a crook ๐พ and flail ๐ and which is another common way to depict him. Ra-Horakhty ๐ ๐๐๐ค is also sometimes shown holding a scepter ๐ along with a flail ๐ .
Based on the styling and the images ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ฆ on the stela ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ธ, I am going to infer that this piece is dated to the 22nd-25th Dynasties. There are many stelae ๐๐ ฑ๐๐ธ๐ช like this in other museums too (except they are mostly finished, not unfinished)!
