Despite the 500 π²π²π²π²π² years separating their reigns, the pharaohs ππ»π₯ Montuhotep II π ππΏπ ±π΅ππͺ (Dynasty 11) and Ahmose I πΊπ (Dynasty 18) are considered to be two π» of Egyptβs ππ ππ greatest pharaohs ππ»π₯ for a very similar reason. They were both responsible for reunifying Egypt ππ ππ!
Ahmose I πΊπ defeated the Hyksos and founded the 18th Dynasty, which is the start of the New Kingdom (this is my favorite part of Egyptian history)! This is the time period when Egypt ππ ππ not only reached its peak power politically, but also a golden age in arts and building projects. Ahmose I πΊπ is responsible for jump-starting all of this by opening quarries πππππ₯, mines, and trade routes in order to undertake these large construction programs.
This beautiful π€ππ statue ππ ±ππΎ of Ahmose I πΊπ shows him wearing the White Crown π€π of Upper Egypt π. It is estimated that Ahmose I ruled for around 25 πππΎ years.
What does Ahmose Iβs name ππ mean? Letβs read some hieroglyphs πΉππͺ! This is what the individual symbols mean:
πΊ – Iah (The Moon)
π – Born/Birth
All together, the name ππ means βThe Moon is Bornβ which is such a wonderful name ππ! I love it!
