In relation to my post about the wedjat ๐ or the “Eye of Horus” from yesterday ๐ด๐๐ณ, I wanted to talk about these really small ๐๐๐ด๐ ฉ but cool steatite ๐ ฎ๐๐๐๐ wedjat ๐ amulets ๐๐ช๐ ๐ช! I love how detailed the wedjat ๐ is!ย It always amazes me how ancient Egyptian craftsman were able to make such small ๐๐๐ด๐ ฉ objects so detailed and beautiful ๐ค๐๐! It’s even more incredible that they have lasted in such great condition for thousands of years!
These steatite ๐ ฎ๐๐๐๐ wedjat ๐ amulets ๐๐ช๐ ๐ช are very similar to the steatite ๐ ฎ๐๐๐๐ scarabs ๐๐ช๐๐๐ฃ๐ช from the Hatshepsut ๐ณ๐ฆ๐/Thutmosis III ๐ณ๐ ๐ฃ era of the 18th Dynasty! They are in the same display case as the steatite ๐ ฎ๐๐๐๐ scarabs ๐๐ช๐๐๐ฃ๐ช at the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Most would miss the fact that these amulets ๐๐ช๐ ๐ช are not scarabs ๐๐ช๐๐๐ฃ๐ช!ย
Letโs read some hieroglyphs ๐น๐๐ช! This is a simple but great inscription ๐๐ ฑ๐ to read! On the back of this amulet ๐๐ช๐ , Hatshepsutโs ๐๐ ๐๐น๐๐๐๐ผ๐ช throne name, Maatkare ๐ณ๐ฆ๐ is written!
๐๐ ๐ – Amun
๐ป – Beloved
๐ณ๐ฆ๐ – Maatkare (Truth ๐ฆ is the Soul ๐ of Re ๐ณ)
The full inscription ๐๐ ฑ๐ reads โBeloved of Amun, Maatkare.โ
