This piece is named โGod Horus Protecting King Nectanbo II.โ Nectanbo II ๐๐ฉ๐ด๐๐ฃ๐บ๐๐ was the last pharaoh ๐๐ป of the short lived 30th Dynasty and he made himself the focus of a religious cult called โNectanbo the Falcon,โ which was a merging of himself with the god ๐น Horus ๐ ๐ญ. Horus ๐ ๐ญ was the god ๐น of kingship!ย

Thereโs a small inscription at the base of the statue, and the inscription is a mirrored one – this means you start in the middle and read Middle to left or middle to right depending on the direction of the symbols! The โ๐นโ is the middle so that is where we are going to start!ย

๐ฅ – King of Upper and Lower Egypt
๐๐ฉ๐ด๐๐ฃ๐บ๐๐ – Nectanbo II โPleasing to the Heart of Ra, Chosen of Amunโ (throne name)
๐น๐จ๐น๐๐ จ๐- Osiris Mnevis
๐ป – Beloved
Middle to Right:ย
๐น – Life
๐ ญ๐ณ – Son of Ra
๐ฅX๐๐๐ก๐ ๐ณ๐๐ – Nectanbo II โNakht Hor Hebitโ (birth name) [the X is a symbol I donโt have]
๐น๐จ๐น๐๐ จ๐๐ป – Osiris Mnevis
Interesting Interpretation of the Hieroglyphs:
Whatโs interesting about this inscription is that I canโt tell if itโs supposed to be โ๐น๐จ๐น๐๐ จ๐๐ป Osiris Mnevisโ or โBeloved of Osiris Mnevisโ with โ๐ปโ being โbeloved.โ To me it makes more sense if it is โBeloved of Osiris Mnevis,โ but I translated it both ways!
Osiris Mnevis ๐น๐จ๐น๐๐ จ๐๐ป is a combination of the gods Osiris ๐น๐จ๐น and Mnevis ๐๐ จ๐๐ป. Mnevis ๐๐ จ๐. Mnevis ๐๐ จ๐ was one of the Bull gods ๐น๐น๐น in ancient Egypt.
